Mergers and Acquisitions

The main reason behind our success in M&A is the track record of our partners, the Asia Pacific Legal 500 lawyers guide describing the firm as "truly expert" in the area.

John Atanaskovic and Tony Hartnell, for example, have been major figures in the M&A area for over 30 years. In the words of the Australia based Legal Profiles lawyers guide, they "enjoy a reputation for possessing technical excellence, commercial experience and business savvy, particularly in the takeovers area. John Atanaskovic has been dubbed "the Supremo" by major clients and is known to be aggressive and inventive". Tony also brings to bear his experience as founding chairman of the ASIC.

Jon Skene, Lawson Jepps and Jeremy Kriewaldt also practise extensively in this area.

We are active in private treaty transactions, as well as public company takeovers ("friendly" and "hostile"). Our clients in this area comprise local and overseas companies (listed and private), investment banks, and government and its instrumentalities. They have included BHP Billiton, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Glencore International, WIN Corporation, Macquarie Bank, Castle Harlan Australia Mezzanine Partners, Bankers Trust, Principal Financial Group, News Corporation, Ten Network, Television and Media Services, Bidvest Group, Competitive Foods, Goodman Fielder, Australian Growth Properties, Capital Z Asia, Halliburton Company, Leighton Holdings, Multiplex Constructions, Phelps Dodge, Petronas Nasional, and the Australian Government's Office of Assets Sales.
